IT Tip Series
More and more today, we are hearing about social engineering attacks, phishing and even spoofing attempts. I’m sure you might’ve even received an email yourself questioning if it was really from the person who sent the message. In this video, we’re going to talk about how cyber security training for employees can help protect your business from spoofing emails and phishing attempts.
In today’s world, email is our main form of communication. As a matter of fact, many of us actually send an email, instead of going into the office to talk to our neighbor.
Tip 1: Name and email match
One of the cyber security awareness best practices to protect yourself is making sure that every email you receive is coming from the intended sender.
How do you do that? I’m glad you asked. The first thing you can do is check and make sure the name also matches the email address that it was sent from.
Tip 2: Attachments
Secondly, check, if there are any attachments, emails, Word documents, and PDFs.
Tip 3: Reaching out
Call the person and make sure that they really sent that email to you.
You will save yourself and your IT company a lot of headache, if you understand and know who the file is coming from.
Implement these tips and more through cyber security training for employees
One of the ways that we have decided to help empower people is to provide cyber security awareness training. That training simply teaches each employee that you are your own firewall. The way that people can access the system is really through employees instead of through your actual firewall.
So, at RTS, we make sure we train you. We send you videos and teach you ways that you can continue to monitor your network. Online security awareness training is relatively inexpensive, but it’s invaluable to your company. You are able to train your employees and let them know that they are the first firewall for your company. If you’re interested in anything that I said, give us a call. If you have any questions, we’ll be glad to help you walk through it.
